BUCKLAND WRIGHT, John. GRESHOFF, Jan. ~ Gedichten [Poems] 1907-1934.
The Hague Printed by Boosten and Stols for Folemprise 1934
One of 25 copies, inscribed by the artist and signed in pencil and signed by the author in ink, this copy being lettered E. One wood engraving plus a loose signed proof on Japon paper of the same. Printed on handmade Ciconia paper. 8 vol., original dark blue morocco by Folemprise with their stamp on the upper turnin, gilt lettering on spine, in the original marbled paper covered slipcase, with the prospectus inserted loose. Spine rather faded to a dark brown, otherwise very good.
The engraving is a portrait of the poet Greshoff between two female nudes as supports and above Siamese cats amid books. Jan Greshoff was the first person to have noticed Buckland Wright's engravings. He was a very well known Dutch writer and saw JBW's work at the 1929 Exhibition of the Belgian Woodcut and he then brought it to the notice of A.A.M. Stols, the director of the Halcyon Press.
