ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT. KIPLING, Rudyard. ~ Recessional.
4 pages of fine illuminated manuscript written in red and black with raised gilt title and purple decoration with 5 gilded initials with blue and green ink. The title page has a verse 7 of psalm 20 and this is followed by the five verses of Kipling's peom Recessional which was written in 1897. Unbound in two folio gatherings.
The words "Lest we forget" which are repeated often in this poem would account for the elaborate calligraphy used. It would appear this was written the 1920s or 1930s after World War One. A remarkably good piece of work.
