With large French fold print of a forest and all on handmade paper by the artist

RAHDA PANDEY, book artist. ~ Abies Spectabilis.

Iowa City Rahda Padney 2012

No. 10 of ony 20 copies. French fold illustration of fir forest in green plus 12 prints in green of parts of the tree including one on the upper cover, printed on specially made abaca paper by the artist and set in Gill's Joanna typeface. 150 x 203 mms. in beige wrappers iwth image on upper cover and patterned paper endpapers.

A compilation of texts, each accompanied with illustrations, including a personal anecdote from the journal of the artist, a parallel experience the form of a folktale by Sehryl a. Karas about the Silver Fir (Abies Alba), a habitat study from 2012 and the taxonomy of the tree. As the personal anecdote is read an image from behind the paper dominates silently. The image of the fir forest is revealed when the French fold fomring the heart of the book is opened fully. The Abies Spectabilis exists at an altitude of 3000-4000 m above sea level in areas stretching from Afghanistan and Pakistan all the way to China, India and Nepal. Unfortunately due to deforestation the species has been severely depleted hence the need to commemorate and celebrate this beautiful tree. Radha Pandey is an important young papermaker, letterpress printer and book artist. She is particularly interested in paper and watermarks as art, studying both Western and Asian papermaking techniques. Her work is always exquisite, unique and breathtakingly beautiful.
