No. 4 of only 7 numbered copies reserved by arrangement with the publisher for fine binding by Zaehnsdorf. The whole edition was of 500 copies. 421 engravings printed on rectos of 113 leaves, some folding. Printed on Grosvenor Chater's Basingwerk Parchment at The Curwen Press. Folio, original quarte dakr green morocco, with vellum covered sides, spine in compartments with raised bands, decorated in gilt with the Zaehnsdorf symbol on the lower compartment, all edges gilt, housed in original green morocco edged green cloth covered slipcase, Ravilious patterned paper endpapers. An exceptionally fine copy.
An important catalogue raisonée of the wood engravings of Ravilious, designed by John Carrod and with an introduction by JM Richards. The reproductions are full size and the book is perfectly printed at The Curwen Press. Seven copies, all bound in different coloured leather, were specially bound by Zaehnsdorf. This copy was bought from George Rainbird of Zaehnsdorf in 1987 by Robert Furber, with his booklabel.
