Bichon of half red morocco with multi coloured paper sides, spine lettered in white and colours, orange and yellow endpapers, original wrappers bound in. A very handsome book.
With an attractive inscription by Serge on the half-title to Mr & Mrs Marcel Vigneau, signed with his trademark anchor, heart & star - ‘en amitie acrobatique et avec un triple sant perilleux’.
Serge’s designs are remarkable and the photographs a terrific insight into circus at the time with pictures of kangaroo boxers, contortionists, equilibristes, lion tamers, clowns, bearded & tatooed ladies, large and tiny circus freaks, the man who can smoke through his eyes, ‘Chaffer’s wonder Midgets’, ‘Specky the fattest boy in the world’ who looks pretty much like an average teenager now...
