Elizabeth Greenhill’s catalogue of her work bound in her own binding, executed from her design by Paul Collet for her friend Peter Strang

~ Elizabeth Greenhill Bookbinder: A Catalogue Raisonne.

K D Duval 1986

Pp. 111. Folio, bound in 1990 to a design by Elizabeth Greenhill, executed by Paul Collet, signed on lower turn-in EG1990PC. Full eggshell blue morocco, with onlays of Greenhill’s trade mark clouds in four different blue moroccos with gilt rules, at the base is a rolling landscape in onlaid green, brown, tan and sea-green morocco outlined with black morocco line and tooled in gilt with vertical gilt lines, lettereing in gilt on lower cover, all edges gilt, housed in the original felt-lined, green cloth solander box. Spine very mildly darkened with tiny area of rubbing, otherwise very good.

Inscribed by Elizabeth Greenhill to her friend Peter Spang in the year of publication and later bound for him to her design. With the books are two cards to him from Greenhill and one from Lisa von Clemm about Greenhill’s memorial service in 2007 in her 100th year.
The design of the binding is a very pleasing one with Greenhill’s trademark clouds and gilt rules, even more meaningful on her own catalogue and being created for one of her friends. At this point in her life Greenhill was in her 80s and could no longer bind herself so used the binder Paul Collet to execute her design for her. A very pleasing piece.
