GILL, Eric. ~ Design for Monumental Tombstone - 1909.
1909
Extremely large original design for a monumental tombstone in pencil and coloured crayon on wove paper. Nearly a metre high - 790 x 391 mm. Mounted and stuck down onto acid free cardboard.
Magnificent and extremely large design for the tombstone of Hannah Boulter which can be found in the cemetery of St Egwin's Church, Norton and Lenchwick, Worcestershire. With a fine example of Gill’s lettering and perfect balance in design.
It is quite possible that this drawing was one of the ‘Designs for a Monument’ listed as nos. 84 to 87 in the Alpine Club Gallery exhibition of Eric Gill’s work in May 1918.
