No. 101 of 175 sets. 29 engravings printed from the original wood blocks on Japanese Hosho paper using an Albion hand-press by Iain Bain and David Chambers and mounted. Together with a 48 pp. catalogue in blue printed wrappers. Sm. folio, housed together in a green cloth folding box with printed paper label on the inside cover and a morocco and gilt spine label. Tiny bit of rubbing to the label, otherwise and excellent set.
The blocks chosen to be reprinted here are selected from all the stages of Pissarro’s work including some engraved in the 1880s when he was working in Paris, some from his First Portfolio ‘Twelve Woodcuts in Black and Colours’ published by Ricketts and Shannon in 1891 when he had moved to London, some cut but not used in the books issued by his Eragny Press and others in the 1920s.
