With a 4 page text ‘Cirque’ by Andre Warnod, 2pp. on the ‘Music-Hall’ by Louis Leon-Martin, and 2pp. on ‘Cinema’. by Leon Moussinac. First edition. One of 275 copies on Francia, this no. 265, of a total edition of 307. 23 of the circus, 16 of the Music-Hall and 10 of the Cinema, plus an illustrated title page and 3 section titles plue 3 head-pieces. 28.4 x 23 cms. 4to., original printed pictorial paper wrappers in pink and black designed by Serge, edges untrimmed. Some wear to extremities but a good, strong copy.

With an original original drawing inserted loose and a decorated inscription filling the first blank from Serge to Pierrot Lagarde which reads “Pour Pierrot Lagarde. Non! Pour Toi. C’est beaucoup mieux en affection du Môme Serge” - signed with an anchor and heart and a star.
Serge (the pen name of Maurice Feaudierre) was a French illustrator and journalist whose main preoccupations were with the circus, variety or music-hall and gypsies. He had a huge interest in magic and it is rumoured that he was a good ventriloquist.
