COURBOULEIX, Leon. ~ Le Cantique des Cantiques [The Song of Songs].
The entire work has been etched, text and illustrations, by Leon Courbouleix and printed from the plates. No. 153 of 280 on paper signed by the artist. 56 etched illustrations by Courbouleix printed in sepia, text printed in black with initial letters hand coloured in red, with some gilt decoration and borders to titles printed in grey. Pp. 76. Folio, loose as issued in the original pinkish wrappers with an etching by Courbouleix printed on the upper cover. An extremely good copy.
Leon Courbouleix (1887-1972) was a painter, illustrator and noted printmaker. We are offering an outstanding example of Courbouleix’s work where he made entire books on etching plates. This one is particularly elaborately illustrated with some of his finest illustrative and calligraphic work.
