One of an edition of 90 plaster casts, this numbered 87 and initialled by the artist on the base, together with an inscription “For Evan G”. Gill has added the date ‘1913’ in pencil. Loss to one hand, a little chipping to the feet, some rubbing and surface soiling. 185 cm high.
The edition of 90 were created from casts, each to be individually hand-painted although others from the edition remained unpainted, for instance the one he gave to Edward Johnston which sold at Bonhams in June 2010, lot 151, for £5400.
Our cast is particularly poignant being signed, numbered and personally inscribed by Eric Gill.
