No. 6 of only 10 copies, numbered and signed by the binder (under the pseudonym of Jean Terme) and the artist. Text of poem by Jaccard on one leaf and colophon imprinted in blind. 23.8 x 28.8 cm. Oblong 4to., raspberry pink aniline calfskin, covers with sharp edges imprinted from one edge to the other with a knotted nylon cord as are the internal leaves with the knotted nylon cord imprinted in different shapes. Housed in the original blue/green cloth folding portgolio with linen tie (slightly faded at edges). The book is in superb condition.
An extraordinary, breathtaking book made entirely of calfskin, decorated with multiple prints of ropes, knots and letters made on the covers, spine, inside covers and body of the book.
Christian Jaccard (b.1939) is a respected French artist whose work often focuses on processes that leave traces and marks and was particularly interested in creating imprints and textures that challenged traditional pictorial formats, as here. The poem in this book reads “ma chère framboise, plus de discours; un peauteint pressé” - roughly translated as “my darling raspberry, not more talk; a pressed skin”.
