Excellent legible 18th century Dutch recipe book with double page drawings of table settings

~ 'Kook boeck'.

The Netherlands Finished 8 April, 1741

88pp. manuscript cookbook with each page filled with recipes for 59 dishes, all written out in a very legible hand. With 7 drawings of table settings. 20 x 16.2 cm. 8vo., bound in the original red roan backed marbled paper covered boards. Rather rubbed and a little bumped but generally a good well preserved volume.

The book begins extremely promisingly; in translation - “First, one will make the bouillon or broth, as it is the mother of all foods”. This is clearly someone who knows what they are doing.
Among the 59 recipes, 56 is used twice, are Dutch specialities like Beef stew with koninginnesoep (Queen’s soup), stuffed pike, apricot Schnapps, Dutch stewed pears, butter biscuits and eel in green herb sauce amongst many others. There is a very clear index and the recipes are easy to read and follow. In addition there are some good drawings of tables of dishes.
With the bookplate of the Dutch collector Leopold Kolisch.
