7 original photographs by J. Landy, each depicting a different age of man as spoken by Jacques in As You Like It from infant to sans everything. Second printing, the first was in 1876. Printed in gold and red. 4to., original brown cloth, gilt lettering and small device on the upper cover. Spine a little darkened, headcaps and corners rubbed, otherwise very good.
James Landy (1838-1897) was an exceptionally successful photographer from Cincinnati, Ohio. He became very famous for these seven photographs - the Cincinatti Commercial Gazette interviewed him shortly before his death in 1897 remarking that “A set of these pictures...adorns the walls of the Shakespeare Memorial Library in Stratford-upon-Avon”.
Landy’s book is dedicated to the great Shakespearean actor John McCullough.
