Second edition. Printed in green ink throughout. The half title is printed in blue/green and the title in four colours with an engraved title vignette in black. Pp. half-title, title, xxiv, 110. 12mo., contemporary marbled paper wrappers. Very good.
The year after this experiment in colour printing which was used because green, as the author writes in his preface (in translation) “is the friend of the eyes, the symbol of hope and the renewal of spring, unfolding in an infinite number of pleasing shades.” Eight days later he published a second volume with the same title dedicated to the colour rose. Then the remarkable ‘Livre de Quatre Colours’ printed in exotic orange, green/blue, burnt sienna and brown.
