10 poems by Edward Lucie-Smith with Spanish translation by Martha Sanchez Llambi. 11 prints by Feliciano Bejar. No. 29 of 75 copies. The main work is in loose leaves (48 x 35 cm) with the poems presented as silk screen reproductions of Lucie-Smith’s handwriting each on a separate sheet, interspersed with Bejar’s intaglio prints, all numbered, titled and signed by the artist in pencil with a title page, a leaf with biographies of the poet and artist and a colophon. Also included is a printed book (18.5 x 19 cm) which includes the text in English and Spanish and is sewn into wrappers which are prints by Bejar, all unopened. Both housed in a vibrant multicoloured cloth covered case with lid held on by ties, designed and made by Consuelo Bejar. Book slightly dusty on covers, case a little faded but generally very good.
Lucie-Smith is a well known Jamaican born critic and poet who is also a broadcaster and curator. He has famously written or edited over 100 books. He founded the small press Turret Books and Turret Publishing specialising in the publication of poetry.
Bejar (1920-2007) was a Mexican artist of some note, completely self-taught having been born in rural central Mexico. He was well known as a sculptor particularly for his ‘Magiscopes’,but worked in many mediums. Here he has produced some beautiful intaglio prints working solely with the press and fine white art paper.
