~ Summer's Eve.

England 1930s

Single page illuminated manuscript written out, illuminated and signed by J.T. Pinion. The 14 line poem has a Celtic style illuminated initial and an elaborate floral border in pink, blue and purple watercolour.

A charming piece of work and fine rendering of Keats’s Sonnet: “Oh: how I love, on a fair summer’s eve, When streams of light pour down the golden west, And on the balmy zephyrs tranquil rest...”
Rather sweetly the calligrapher ran out of room on the second line and inserted the final word on the line above.
Together with two trial illuminated initials on a separate small leaf and 3 pp. of calligraphic writing on in preparation for illumination all by the same calligrapher.
