Printed at the Westminster Press in Monotype Plantin on Dutch laid paper with Nonesuch watermark. Folio, original parchment backed, patterned paper covered boards. The owner of the press, Francis Meynell, had been a great fan of McKnight Kauffer’s work for some time before he commissioned this work to accompany the text from the original 6th edition of 1628. Kauffer’s work caused some controversy but was stoutly defended by Roger Fry and Kauffer was subsequently commissioned by several leading publishers. The work is really remarkable and like nothing which preceded it.
