Thoreau’s remarkable account of his sojourn in a cabin on Walden Pond between 1845 and 1847. Ruzicka spent the summer of 1929 in Concord, Massachusetts so he could be near Walden Pond while completing the fine illustrations for this edition.
The Lakeside Press produced high quality collectible editions for the Chicago Caxton Club and the Limited Editions Club. From 1922-1945, the Director of Design and Typography was the excellent William A. Kittredge, who commissioned other well-regarded artists and designers, such as Rudolph Ruzicka, Edward A. Wilson, and W.A. Dwiggins.
