Pp. 37 [3]. 140 x 210 mms. 8vo., original pale green paper covered boards, design by Kredel in green on upper cover and lettering to spine, fore and lower edges uncut. Spine and edges very slightly darekened, otherwise very good.
Fritz Kredel’s telling of stories from his native Odenwäld, illustrated throughout with his vibrant woodcuts coloured using stencils.
Kredel was a prolific illustrator whose versatile works included drawings, water-colours, type design, book illustrations, maps, political cartoons, paper dolls and the presidential seal for John F. Kennedy’s inauguration. He learned his trade as an assistant to artist-craftsman Rudolf Koch, in the Klingspor Foundry Offenbach, during the 1920s.
