ESSEX HOUSE PRESS. BUNYAN, John. ~ The Pilgrim's Progress from this World to that which is to come. Delivered under the similitude of a dream. Wherein is discovered the manner of his setting out; his dangerous journey and safe arrival at the desired country.
No. 567 of 750 copies. Wood engraving by Reginald Savage and wood engraved press device. Printed in red and black throughout. Very small 8vo., original full vellum binding with yapp edges, spine lettered in black. A very good, bright and tight copy, largely unopened, very mild spotting to edges.
The third book from the Press when it was still in East London. The Press had been founded by Laurence Hodson and C.R. Ashbee “in the hope to keep living the traditions of good printing that William Morris had revived”. They used two compositors and a pressman straight from Kelmscott to help in their cause.
