COMBET-DESCOMBES, Pierre. BAUDELAIRE. ~ Images pour un Baudelaire.
20 full plates being sepia ‘phototypes’ (collotypes) printed by Sadag in Geneva from monotypes of Combet-Decombes’ female nudes. 325 x 250 mms. Folio, 20 plates plus title with vignette and limitation leaf loose in a printed wrapper and a grey card portfolio with woodcut printed in red on the upper cover. Lacking ties but otherwise an extremely good set.
The reproductions of the nudes with handwritten text are illustrating Baudelaire’s famous ‘Les Femmes Damnées’ from which was one of the 6 poems from his Fleurs du Mal which was banned as an insult to public decency in 1859.
