20 wood block illustrations, alleged in the text to date from the 15th century but which were actually cut by Fritz Kredel. Cary’s farcical account of the appearance of a series of wood blocks supposedly depicting the life of Gutenberg. Completed on the 500th anniversary of the year generally accepted as that in which Gutenberg invented and successfully cast movable metal types. One of an unspecified number. Handset in Goudy Medieval type by George W. Van Vechtan, Jr. Pp. 60. 8vo., [16.5 x 22 cms], original quarter green cloth over green paper covered boards, decorative design in blind to upper cover, lettering in gilt to spine. Very slightly faded at spine and along edges of boards, otherwise a good copy.

Inserted loose in a bookmark cut in the shape of a chimney with a printed Christmas greeting from Mary and Melbert Cary.
