First edition with misspelled title. 24 full colour tipped illustrations and 12 tinted illustrations plus several illustrations in the text all by Arthur Rackham. 4to., bound in handsome rich green morocco with gilt borders on covers, spine in compartments with raised bands with gilt decorations in the compartments and gilt lettering, elaborate gilt decorated turn-ins, marbled paper endpapers, all edges gilt. A very handsome copy, couple of small bumps on lower board.
A collection of ghost stories, legends and myths by ‘Thomas Ingoldsby’ which was the pen name of Richard Barham, they were originally a serial publication in Bentley’s Miscellany magazine. The stories, which included The Jackdaw of Rheims” were very popular and were published in several editions in the 19th century. This, edition, with Rackham’s illustrations is probably the most popular of all of them.
