ERAGNY PRESS. PERRAULT, Charles. ~ Histoire de Peau D'Ane.
3 wood engravings by Thomas Sturge Moore. Wood engraved frontispiece, border and initial letters designed by Lucien Pissarro and engraved by Lucien and Esther Pissarro. One of 230 copies printed in black and red in Vale type on Arches paper with the Eragny watermark. 8vo., quarter bound in grey-blue paper with title in gilt on upper left hand corner, lotus flower patterned paper covered boards. Slight rubbing to extremities, head and tail of spine and corners gently bumped, otherwise very good.
The first of 4 Eragny books which Lucien Pissarro didn't illustrate entirely himself. With Pissarro, Thomas Sturge Moore was a close friend of Laurence Binyon and of Ricketts and Shannon at the Vale Press. Although initially reticent as he was focusing on his writing, in the end Sturge Moore agreed to design and engrave three illustrations while the frontispiece and borders were reused from the Eragny Press’s first book of Perrault’s tales. This was the first of only four books which Lucien did not illustrate himself.
