New York Antiquarian Book Fair, 21st-24th April

After a very long wait, I am finally back in New York exhibiting at the Armory this weekend. It promises to be a bumper fair with dealers from all over the world bringing their very best books to show to an excited audience – not least other dealers who have been cooped up for way too long.

I will be showing a wide variety of items, loosely put together as a show of The Art of the Book, at stand/booth A10…to see the fully illustrated catalogue please click on Gaylord Schanilec’s image of Times Square above … or click here

Some highlights include one of the rarest of private press books, the Daniel Press’s Garland of Rachel – only 36 copies were printed and we have one of the 18 reserved for contributors (each of which had an individual title page). This one was for the man who instigated the whole project, T.H. Ward (or the Mr to the great Mrs Humphry Ward).

A fine manuscript of the Rubaiyat by Percy Delf Smith, one of the founders, with Edward Johnston and Eric Gill,  of the Society of Calligraphers.

Some excellent bindings – several by women bookbinders like Alice Pattinson, Dorothy Carlton Smyth and Johanna Birkenruth and a good selection of work by British women wood engravers including Monica Poole, Clare Leighton, Gwen Raverat, Agnes Miller Parker and Miriam MacGregor. Do come along to have a look!
