The Lisping Goddess.
A Figurehead Fantasy: Comments & conversations, Philosophical, Romantical, Facutal & Mendacious, Poetical & Impertinent by Loquacious Mariners, Discreetly Recounted & Advantageously Delineated by W R F.
One of 35 copies for presentation use and not for sale, signed by Russell Flint in a deluxe binding by Bayntun-Riviere, no. 244 of a total edition of 275. Collotypes of 2 watercolours and 26 drawings by Russell Flint. Large initial by Margaret Adams printed in a rich maroon. Text printed and beautifully set by Dame Hildelith Cummings in Cancelleresca Bastarda on Hodgkinson handmade paper. Folio, 21.2 x 35.6 cms, bound in bright scarlet morocco signed by Bayntun-Riviere with device by Flint blocked in gilt on the upper cover, spine in compartments with raised bands, gilt lettering on spine, gilt fillet on turn-ins, top edge gilt, others uncut, marbled endpapers designed by Flint and with his monogram. An extremely good, clean and crisp copy, housed in the remains of the original marbled paper covered slipcase (lacking bottom edge).
A major piece of work by the Stanbrook Abbey Press where Russell Flint found the typographical marvel Dame Hildelith Cumming remarkably open minded about producing a book with ‘watercolours of nubile young ladies’ to accompany this series of extraordinary prose fantasies inspired by the collection of ship’s figureheads on board the Cutty Sark.
