One of 50 specially bound copies of a total edition of 850, this no. 30, signed by the author. 8vo., original black and natural tan niger with the title as a signature in black on spine and upper cover. Some spotting to the tan morocco and rubbing to the spine.

The first book from James Cleugh’s fairly short-lived Aquila Press printed by the great George W. Jones at The Sign of the Dolphin. The author and translator Cleugh (1891-1969) established the Press ot publish obscure literary works.
John Rodker (1894-1955) was an important English writer, modernist poet and publisher of modernist writers. He had previously run the shortlived Ovid Press which published TS Eliot and Ezra Pound, as well as artwork Wyndham Lewis, Edward Wadsworth and Gaudier-Brzeska. He ended up in Paris and became heavily involved with Joyce’s banned Ulysses and French translations of Joyce. His work Adolphe 1920 is influenced by Joyce his time in Paris, the book spans just 8 hours of the protaganist Dick’s life in Paris.
