GRABHORN PRESS. WYNKYN DE WORDE. ~ A Short Account of the Life and Work of Wynkyn de Worde, with a leaf from The Golden Legend printed by him at the sign of The Sun in Fleet Street, London, the Year 1527.
One of 375 copies. Title in red, printed in red and black throughout in Rudolf Koch's Bibel Gotisch type on French handmade. Seven devices of Wynkyn de Worde reproduced in the text and with decorative initials by Zena Kavin. Folio, original brown cloth backed, decorated paper covered board, printed paper labels on spine and upper cover, in the original plain paper protective wrapper (chipped at extremities).
The texts used here on Wynkyn de Worde and on the textual and printing history of the Golden Legend, were compiled from various sources by Robert Grabhorn and is a fascinating story despite the fact that "with Wynkyn de Worde his record forces us to the conclusion that his history was largely one of long and industrious labor, free from any drama other than that provided by his time".
The original Wynkyn de Worde leaf in our copy is folio 53 and appears to be of the final words of the first part of the text the first two pages of the index.
A very good copy with the booklabel of Clarence B. Hanson on the front pastedown.
