~ Come See the Woolly Whale.

New York Press of the Woolly Whale 2002

Cover illustration drawn by Fritz Kredel. ‘Woolly Whale’ press mark drawn by Willi Harweth. An invitation to a reception celebrating the publication of ‘Melbert B. Cary and the Press of the Woolly Whale’ at the Cary Graphic Arts Collection, Wallace Library, Rochester Institute of Technology. Set in Rudolph Koch’s Koch Antiqua type. 4 pp folded, with the note on type and illustrations used in the invitation inserted loose. A very good example of this Woolly Whale ephemera.

The illustration on the front of the invitation was originally drawn by Fritz Kredel, and was one of series he created for a 1938 Woolly Whale edition of ‘Schnitzelbank’, ‘an old German song, with some of its verses revised to mirror the activities & idiosyncrasies of the publishers’.
